How it works

Three steps, and you only talk to companies that can do the lift.

  1. Describe the lift

Weight, distance from where the crane parks, height and date. The estimator gives you a crane class to ask for.

  2. We pass it on

Your request goes to up to three independent crane operators who work in the Toledo area.

  3. Operators quote you

They contact you by email or phone, check site details, and send a price. You pick one, or none.

What a crane costs

Bare rental ranges from a national 2026 pricing guide. Operated rentals add the operator; most quotes also add travel time to your site.

Have these ready before operators call

Crane companies price from the same few facts. Having them makes quotes faster and closer to the final bill.

Heaviest piece
From the nameplate, shipping papers or the supplier. Add pallets, frames and spreader bars.
Distance from crane to set-down point
Where the truck can park, measured to the spot the load lands. This drives crane size more than weight.
Height
Roof or floor level the load goes to, plus anything it has to clear on the way.
Ground and access
Paved lot, grass, soft fill, slope, gate widths, weight limits on driveways or bridges.
Overhead power lines
OSHA requires planning whenever the crane or load could come within 20 ft of a line. Tell the operator early.
Street use
If the crane sits on a street or sidewalk in Toledo, ask the operator who arranges the city right-of-way permit and any lane closure.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to rent a crane in Toledo?

National guides put bare rental (no operator) at roughly $800–$1,500 a day for a carry deck crane, $2,000–$4,500 a day for a hydraulic truck crane and $5,000–$15,000 a day for a crawler. Operated rentals add the operator, and most quotes add travel to and from the site. Use the crane cost calculator for your job, then compare real quotes.

What size crane do I need?

Start from three numbers: the heaviest load, the horizontal distance from where the crane can park to where the load lands (the radius), and the height. Capacity falls quickly as radius grows, so a 4,000 lb unit 60 ft from the truck can need a bigger crane than a 10,000 lb load set right beside it. The crane size calculator gives a starting class; the operator confirms it against the crane’s load chart.

Do I need an operator, or can I rent a crane bare?

Most one-day lifts are booked as operated rentals: the company supplies the crane and a certified operator. Bare rental only makes sense if you have your own operator. Under OSHA’s crane rule (29 CFR 1926.1427), operators on construction sites must be certified for the type of crane they run.

Do I need a permit to put a crane on a Toledo street?

Using a public street or sidewalk usually needs a right-of-way permit from the city, and sometimes a lane closure plan. Crane companies that work in Toledo regularly often handle this or tell you exactly what to file. Ask about it when you compare quotes, because it affects the date you can book.

How far ahead should I book?

Small cranes and boom trucks are often available within days. Larger all-terrain and crawler cranes, and anything needing permits or a lift plan, need more notice. If your date is fixed, send the request as soon as you know the weight and location.

What about power lines near the lift?

OSHA (29 CFR 1926.1408) requires the employer to plan the lift if the crane, load line or load could get within 20 feet of a power line, and sets minimum clearances by voltage — 10 ft for lines up to 50 kV, more above that. Mention any overhead lines in your request.
